I recently attended a fairly large opensource conference in germany, where companies that somehow do business around the opensource network monitoring tool named Nagios gather and drink themselves and each other into insensibility once a year. I ran into much the same issues there, even though it would have made all our lives a whole lot easier if we could pull patches from each others repositories.
