[PATCH v5 0/3] "promisor-remote" capability fixes

As a number of different issues and fixes were found and discussed in the previous iterations, I thought it made sense to split the patch into a small 3 patch series.

There are a lot of changes again compared to the previous version, so I don't think it makes sense to provide a range-diff.
