Huh?  I tried this:
	$ foo="$(printf '\n')/bar"
	$ printf '%s\n' "$foo"
	/bar

If that didn't work, it would mean that "git rev-parse --show-prefix" would never work when the prefix is nonempty, because it is followed by a newline.
