Could you be so kind and summarize the result of the thread in something like 2000 characters?

I am sorry, but what with the recent trend of a precious few Git mailing list members using up my weekly Git time budget in less than half a day, just by me reading their mails, it would be nice if at least _some_ discussions on the list could be concise and to the point.
