If the user says "Please pretend that I have never touched this file", which is what "assume unchanged" is all about, I think we should not notice if the user removes one of such files from the working tree, just like we don't notice (rather, pretend not to notice) if the user modified it.

I am inclined to think that we should rather treat that as a bug.
