I don't see glibc getting fake locale support any time soon even if it's more open than before. I can try to make gettext support pseudo translations, though not sure if I can make it.

But yes, even if gettext does not have native support, relying on podebug should be ok. Whatever changes we need, other projects might too. It's better to do it outside of git.
