Here are the topics that have been cooking in my tree. Commits prefixed with '+' are in 'next' (being in 'next' is a sign that a topic is stable enough to be used and are candidate to be in a future release). Commits prefixed with '-' are only in 'seen', and aren't considered "accepted" at all and may be annotated with an URL to a message that raises issues but they are no means exhaustive. A topic without enough support may be discarded after a long period of no activity.

Copies of the source code to Git live in many repositories, and the following is a list of the ones I push into or their mirrors. Some repositories have only a subset of branches.

With maint, master, next, seen, todo:
	git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/git/git.git/
	git://repo.or.cz/alt-git.git/
	https://kernel.googlesource.com/pub/scm/git/git/
	https://github.com/git/git/
	https://gitlab.com/git-vcs/git/
With all the integration branches and topics broken out:
	https://github.com/gitster/git/

Even though the preformatted documentation in HTML and man format are not sources, they are published in these repositories for convenience (replace "htmldocs" with "manpages" for the manual pages):

	git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/git/git-htmldocs.git/
	https://github.com/gitster/git-htmldocs.git/
Release tarballs are available at:
	https://www.kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/

more inline with the original spirit of "rebuild your side on top
 of theirs".

Why was this series merged after only 11 minutes of review window? Are patches from GitHub favored over all others?

As I explained here [1], this is clearly the wrong approach because it ends up calling git_default_config *twice*.

The simplest fix is [2], which simply shuffles one line of code.

The proper fix is to reorganize the way merge_recursive_config() works, so git_xmerge_config is called only once at the right time (before any option parsing). That not only fixes the reported bug, but also makes merge.conflictStyle work for both real merges and trivial merges, along with fixing other issues.

Certainly not.

The reason that this was merged quickly is because both of the first two reviewers had already seen the patch and reviewed it earlier on the git-security list. The patch that Stolee sent was urgent enough to merit a quick merge. But it was not so urgent as to do an embargoed release since the client-side attack isn't interesting, rather it was important for forges which may use merge-tree directly to perform merges.

Thanks, Taylor

There's a quick review, and there is zero review.
Even Derrick Stolee wanted more time for the public list to review the patch.

If the eyeballs of the public list are not wanted after a security review, then why bother sending it here? Just merge it directly from git-security.

I don't think that's desirable though. I share the opinion of Linus Torvalds that security fixes are not special: they are just another fix. Therefore they should go through the same process as any other patch, because just like any other patch, they can introduce regressions, and benefit from more eyeballs.

If "given enough eyeballs, all bugs are shallow", I fail to see why we would want less eyeballs for security fixes. I for one found two issues with the patch, my first comment was a bit more than an hour later, and it's already merged.

I don't think that's ideal.
Cheers.

From my point of view the series is ready to be merged now, and Glen has also given his Reviewed-by.

We may add below diff to "fetch: introduce `display_format` enum". No further changes would be required for any of the other patches as we always explicitly initialize the value already and don't use the `UNKNOWN` value anywhere.

diff --git a/builtin/fetch.c b/builtin/fetch.c

I'm rather indifferent though and feel like re-sending all patches only
to change this one line of code generates too much noise. But I'm happy
to adjust in order to make your life easier.

Thanks!

Yup, if I were writing this series from scratch I wouldn't have added the UNKNOWN one myself, but it is so small thing that we can leave it for those who want to do trivial clean-ups after the dust settles (it could even be one of future microprojects).

I wonder what made this breakage hidden. I usually run the tests after accepting a series standalone, and I run the full test suite (excluding the ones that depend on things I do not have, like p4) with bash and dash before pushing anything out, and I haven't seen GitHub Actions break due to this.

Ah, it is because t/Makefile essentially uses $(TEST_SHELL_PATH_SQ) to run $@, instead of directly doing "./$@", in both cases with and without probe. This is very much deliberate in that we do not want to rely on and get affected by whichever shell choice the system administrator made when installing "/bin/sh".

I'll apply your patch primarily for consistency (a shell script file that begins with "#!bin/sh" never is a good thing, and everybody else begins with "#!/bin/sh") for now, but I think the justification of your patch is questionable in that we do not want our developers to rely on "./t5583-push-branches.sh" to work [*], as these scripts are designed to run under $(TEST_SHELL_PATH).

Thanks.
[Footnote]
 * We could, for example, make t/t[0-9][0-9][0-9]-*.sh scripts
consistently use bogus shebang line to catch possible breakage to
t/Makefile that bypasses $(TEST_SHELL_PATH) in the future. If
that happens, developers who expect ./t5583-push-branches.sh to
   work will be broken.

I'll try to get a v3 out early next week.
