I use CygWin and I have all the git tools (git-core, git-svn, git-gui, gitk) and the version available is 1.7.2.3-1.

What version of CygWin did you install? Do you use the lastest installer? CygWin have pass to 1.7 this year. I don't known what happen if we mix the version 1.5 with 1.7.
