I think "chaos" is a bit exaggerated. We already have both styles on the mailing list, and I think in general people are able to cope with that just fine. :)

That's a good point though -- if we change the recommendation, we should aim to change it consistently. I'll talk with Dscho (maintainer of GGG) today.
