Here's another one for FreeBSD 11 x86_64. LDLIBS includes -pthread.
$ cat ~/git-freebsd.txt
    LINK git-credential-store
/usr/local/bin/ld: libgit.a(name-hash.o): undefined reference to
symbol 'pthread_create@@FBSD_1.0'
//lib/libthr.so.3: error adding symbols: DSO missing from command line
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
gmake: *** [Makefile:2329: git-credential-store] Error 1
