Hmm. I can confirm that it doesn't happen for me either any more, although I don't know if that is an actual less bugfix, or it was timing-dependent.

That said, the workaround has other nice properties too, like delaying the screen cleaning that "less" often does. So I don't know if we really want to get rid of it.
