Out of curiosity, what is the timestamp difference between the first and last GIT_TRACE_PACKET log message containing "refs/changes"?
This is an issue for the Android repository too (which also uses Gerrit). I have some work in progress to avoid the extra refs from being sent [1], but haven't been working on it recently.
