[PATCH v3 0/6] Make "git show -s" easier to discover for users

Compared to v2, I just added tests. Strongly inspired from Jonathan's, but there's one more, and I chose the "modern" indentation style (hence a clean-up patch before, to avoid mixed-style in the same file).
