I just discovered a failure mode when pushing over webdav.
I did a clone akin to:
git clone http://NAME:PW@SITE/git/foo/bar
and was unable to push with just a
git push

I watched with ngrep and found that git-http-push authenticated after the initial connect, got a 100 reply with a Location header of /git/foo/bar/ (note the trailing slash), authenticated again, got another 100 reply OKing the 2nd authentication and then failed to continue.

If instead I ran:
git push http://NAME:PW@SITE/git/foo/bar/
(specifying that trailing slash) everything worked as expected.

This occured with each of git 1.4.2.1 and 1.5.0.2. (In both cases as packaged by debian.)

NB that the use of webdav wasn't my choice.
Nor was http rather than https.

It is vaguely described in Documentation/howto/setup-git-server-over-http.txt lines 211--

I also wanted to fix that behaviour, but since the trailing slash fixes push, never got around to do it.
