The https://git-scm.com/docs/gittutorial-2 says 'For some interesting examples of Git use, see the <a href="http://git-scm.com/docs/howto-index">howtos</a>"' but that does not exist and redirects to https://git-scm.com/docs. Where should that link be updates it point?

I found https://git-scm.com/docs/gitworkflows which looks somewhat fitting or perhaps https://github.com/git/git/tree/master/Documentation/howto.

`howtos-index` does get generated by the Git project but doesn't
appear to be published on the git-scm site for some reason. git-scm is
maintained as a separate project[1], so the best thing to do is to
report the problem there using their bug tracker[2].

Eric,

I was going to report it on github but it[1] says "Make sure this is NOT an issue about : - the Git documentation (a.k.a. man/help pages, i.e. anything with a URL starting with https://git-scm.com/docs), which should be raised with the community at https://git-scm.com/community,..."

There's already an issue here:

  https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fgithub.com%2Fgit%2Fgit-scm.com%2Fissues%2F1521&amp;data=04%7C01%7CDennis.Bulgrien%40astronics.com%7C35dd885da77a4dcd278c08d8c94b440e%7Ca2ce8a60084049b7938997ad811e2924%7C1%7C0%7C637480672478675488%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C2000&amp;sdata=YnvAqClHZb3Ne5RtIpSQO%2BZI6IbgmWrqRjZhYaaUjys%3D&amp;reserved=0

But I think there's a larger problem within Git's manpages themselves.
There is no manpage version of many of the pages, yet git.txt still links to them. So "man git" on my system points to to several file:// urls that doesn't exist. This is true of my custom-built Git, but I think also true for some system package setups (e.g., Debian's "git"
package ships the manpages, but you don't get the html versions unless you install "git-doc" as well).

Yeah, there are sort of two questions here:

  - should git-scm.com be generating the howto-index, api-index, etc;
    that's an issue that would be solved there (because it has custom
    code to import and format the documentation from git.git).

  - should Documentation/git.txt be more careful about referencing
    potentially-absent html files from the manpage builds. That's an
    issue that should be solved here on the mailing list.
