Hello, is there another way than call 'checkout-cache -a' and parse the output? Maybe a command which lists one dirty file per line?

of course I meant parsing the output of 'update-cache --refresh'.

Re: list all dirty files in working directory
git-update-cache --refresh | while read line; do
echo $line | cut -d ':' -f 1
doneThat should give you one file per line, for every dirty file.

A simple
git-diff-files
does what I think you want.
Of course, it does a lot more too, but part of the deal is that you get to know which files are dirty.
