# CI housekeeping series replaces end-of-life images and drops a redundant job

_Patrick Steinhardt's eight patches update Docker images, and review has focused on lost test coverage and commit-message wording._

The series came out of an earlier discussion. Patrick Steinhardt reported passing runs on GitLab and GitHub, and said he merged the Meson changes so GitLab passes, though they are not a strict dependency.

One patch drops the linux-reftable job, on the grounds that linux-reftable-leaks already exercises reftable and a run without the leak sanitizer is unlikely to catch extra bugs. Junio C Hamano noted that linux-reftable-leaks disables the CVS, SVN and P4 tests through NO_*_TESTS in ci/lib.sh, so reftable would no longer be tested with them at all. He said the loss should be noted or justified in the commit message. Steinhardt agreed those tests are not very important to him but found it hard to argue for dropping coverage, and proposed adapting the job to test reftable with SHA-256, a combination with little coverage today.

The wording of the linux32 patch also drew comments. The job uses i386/ubuntu:20.04, which is end of life, and Steinhardt's commit message said 20.04 is the last Ubuntu release with 32-bit support, so the image cannot be upgraded. Todd Zullinger asked whether the original phrasing implied the wrong release dropped i386. Junio C Hamano said he read it as intended but agreed it could be read both ways, and suggested alternative wording. Steinhardt said he had rewritten the paragraph.
