Julia Evans posted a first draft of a new tutorial. Part 1 creates an empty repo and makes two commits with git init, add, commit, status and diff. Part 2 pushes the repo to a remote host such as GitHub or GitLab using git remote add and git push, including creating an SSH key.

She said 22 beta testers who tried to learn Git for the first time with it have left 112 comments so far, and most finished it successfully. She plans a second round of feedback with them, and the beginning especially will likely change, so she asked to avoid detailed line-level discussion at this stage. She said she has two questions for feedback, which the excerpt does not show.

The series has two patches. The first adds the new tutorial text. The second deletes the existing Documentation/gittutorial.adoc, which is about 676 lines. She split it as remove then add, because the old content is not reused, so the patches are easier to read on the mailing list.

This follows other documentation work from Evans this week, including removing gittutorial-2 and updating man git. No replies had been posted at the time of the excerpts.
