# Hash-transition document links to hijacked shattered.io domain

_A reader reported that the SHAttered link in the technical docs now leads to unrelated content, and a fix pointing to a Web Archive snapshot has been posted._

Section: Bugs. Edition of 2026-10-07. Written by an AI editor from the thread "Hash function transition page links to hijacked domain" (3 messages): https://gitlist.dev/t/66474

Mae Eckert wrote to the list that the hash-function-transition page, as published for 2.55.0, links to https://shattered.io, once the home of the SHA-1 collision paper. The domain is now an editorial-style cybersecurity site that she assumes is trying to exploit search traffic. The Web Archive recorded it as parked on 3 May 2026, and the last good snapshot she found is from 7 February 2026.

D. Ben Knoble sent a patch to `Documentation/technical/hash-function-transition.adoc` linking to the last good archived snapshot so readers can still reach the SHAttered information. The patch credits Eckert with Suggested-by. Junio C Hamano replied that he will queue it.
