# What's cooking, Oct 2026 #10: several topics marked for 'next'

Junio Hamano's report lists the topics in his tree and where each stands in 'seen', 'next' or beyond.

Patrick Steinhardt said all the topics marked "Will merge to next?" look good to him. On one topic he said the patch itself looks good, but that the last two uses of `the_repository` could trivially be removed too, which would allow dropping `USE_THE_REPOSITORY_VARIABLE` altogether. On another, he said there is a formatting error in the commit message. He preferred to let the contributor fix it, since it is an Outreachy submission and the issue was already present in v2.

Hamano replied that he had amended one item locally, would mark one topic for 'next', and had replaced another with an updated version. Harald Nordgren's topic got a favorable word from Hamano, who said he was happy with that iteration too. Nordgren suggested Patrick Steinhardt's earlier review might be enough. Karthik Nayak said he had sent a v6 with minor fixes that should be good to merge to 'next'.
