At the same time, git already implicitly requires more than, say, a Bourne shell. Functions, $( ) command substitution, ${} parameter expansion, $(( )) arithmetic expansion, etc. These are all standard in a POSIX shell, but may or may not exist in other shell variants. -- Dan
