Actually, I figured out the problem is that I can't do this: FROM='--from "Foo Barson "' git-send-email $FROM ... I got all sorts of weird messages about unbalanced > or something. Instead, I need to do this: FROM="Foo Barson " git-send-email --from $FROM ...
