Not to advocate either way (me being completely new to git), but as far as ssh is concerned, I don't think that the addressable objects necessarily have to be executables. Quoting RFC4251: "The Secure Shell (SSH) Protocol is a protocol for secure remote login and other secure network services over an insecure network." That reads rather vague to me. -- Jing Xue
