(Or perhaps this is already\npossible and I just don't see it.)\n\nIt would be nice to be able to completely expunge a file or delta from\na private part of an archive (\"private\" meaning not yet published to\nothers).\n\nHere's my use case. I have some unit tests for my program, and I\nadded some input and output for the tests to my git archive. Now I'm\nhaving second thoughts, as these files can be quite large, and I'm\nrealizing what this implies with respect to git. Even the smallish\ntest cases I checked in are 5-10MB, which is way larger than the\ncodebase, and I'm not sure it makes sense to drag all of this around\nin the git archive. (Maybe it would be appropriate to put them in a\nparallel archive?)\n\nAnyway, I realized that hacking the archive this way isn't very\nelegant, but maybe others would find it useful. It seems like the\nbasic technique of git-rebase could be applied here.\n\nEven if the archive is already public, I suppose it might occasionally\nbe useful to be able to (say) split the archive by subtrees, and\nsimply have everyone cut over.\n\nMike\n"},{"id":"40490","messageId":"7virbju17h.fsf@assigned-by-dhcp.cox.net","threadId":"7852","inReplyTo":"3c6c07c20704252248q3cd82d4cgcffb9852fa261a70@mail.gmail.com","subject":"Re: suggested feature: completely expunge a file (or just a delta) a la rebase","fromName":"Junio C Hamano","fromEmail":"junkio@cox.net","sentAt":"2007-04-26T05:57:54Z","receivedAt":"2007-04-26T05:57:54Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"gitster@pobox.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/54884?v=4"},"body":"\"Mike Coleman\" <tutufan@gmail.com> writes:\n\n> Here's an idea for a git feature.
