Thus, typically you would use it as follows:\n\n...........................................................................\njas@mocca:~/src/libtasn1$ git log --pretty --numstat --summary | ~/src/git2cl/git2cl > ChangeLog\njas@mocca:~/src/libtasn1$\n...........................................................................\n\nThe output format is specified by:\n\nlink:http://www.gnu.org/prep/standards/html_node/Change-Logs.html[]\n\nIn the future, git2cl may be modified to run this command itself,\nsimilar to how cvs2cl works.\n\nMy inspiration for writing this tool was the\nlink:http://www.red-bean.com/cvs2cl/[cvs2cl] tool, which I am using in\nseveral projects. Replacing it is a necessary condition for me to\nseriously consider switching from CVS to GIT for my projects.\n\nCurrently, git2cl lacks much of the flexibility in git2cl. Sheesh,\ngit2cl doesn't even have command line parameters!\n\nThe canonical home page for git2cl is:\nlink:http://josefsson.org/git2cl/[] and its repository can be found at\nlink:http://repo.or.cz/w/git2cl.git[].\n\nSupport\n-------\n\nTry talking to mailto:simon@josefsson.org[Simon Josefsson].\n"},{"id":"36062","messageId":"20070302101607.GA6811@alberich.amd.com","threadId":"7046","inReplyTo":"87mz2wrp9u.fsf@latte.josefsson.org","subject":"Re: ANNOUNCE: git2cl","fromName":"Andreas Herrmann","fromEmail":"andreas.herrmann3@amd.com","sentAt":"2007-03-02T10:16:07Z","receivedAt":"2007-03-02T10:16:07Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"andreas.herrmann3@amd.com","avatar":null},"body":"On Fri, Mar 02, 2007 at 10:03:09AM +0100, Simon Josefsson wrote:\n> Hi! Thanks for testing!\n\n> #> git log --pretty --numstat --summary | ~/git2cl\n> 2007-02-28 Junio C Hamano <junkio@cox.net>\n>\n> * : Add recent changes to draft 1.5.1 release notes.\n>\n>\n>\n> Usage: POSIX::strftime(fmt, sec, min, hour, mday, mon, year, wday =\n> -1, yday = -1, isdst = -1)\n> at git2cl line 257, <> line 20.\n>\n> So it seems that your script needs some improvement.\n\nYup! The parser did not handle merges, and several other things that\nI haven't learned about and didn't use in libtasn1 yet.\n\nI have fixed the script so that it doesn't break on the git log.\nHowever, the log style used in git doesn't work perfectly with the\nChangeLog format, some problems are:\n\n* Sentences are sometimes finished with newline instead of '.'. It is\n difficult for the parser to know when a sentence is finished or not.\n For example:\n\n * np/types:\n Cleanup check_valid in commit-tree.\n make sure enum object_type is signed\n get rid of lookup_object_type()\n convert object type handling from a string to a number\n formalize typename(), and add its reverse type_from_string()\n sha1_file.c: don't ignore an error condition in sha1_loose_object_info()\n sha1_file.c: cleanup \"offset\" usage\n sha1_file.c: cleanup hdr usage\n\n* The Signed-off-by message also aren't terminated with '.'. However,\n I think it would be useful to put these headers together with the\n author field, something like this:\n\n2007-02-28 Uwe Kleine-König <ukleinek@informatik.uni-freiburg.de>\n Signed-off-by: Uwe Kleine-König <ukleinek@informatik.uni-freiburg.de>\n Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <junkio@cox.net>\n\n * Documentation/Makefile: Include config.mak in doc/Makefile\n config.mak.autogen is already there. Without this change it is not\n possible to override mandir in config.mak. \n\n However, this is an extension of the changelog format, and should\n probably be discussed within the GNU community.\n\nThere are more issues, but making this work right is not my priority.\n\nIf you care, please run the script and compare the output with what\nyou believe should have happened and try to improve it. Possibly the\ncurrent parser is too simplistic to handle more complex situations,\nbut there is a starting point for everything...\n\n/Simon\n"},{"id":"36220","messageId":"esd3oq$h6q$1@sea.gmane.org","threadId":"7046","inReplyTo":"87mz2wrp9u.fsf@latte.josefsson.org","subject":"Re: ANNOUNCE: git2cl","fromName":"Jakub Narebski","fromEmail":"jnareb@gmail.com","sentAt":"2007-03-04T00:29:31Z","receivedAt":"2007-03-04T00:29:31Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"jnareb@gmail.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/2706?v=4"},"body":"Simon Josefsson wrote:\n\n> Hi!
