Not sure why\nI needed to do 'checkout -f' to get all the files in the working directory,\nbut I got no problem with that.\n\nFor some other modules it doesn't work at all.\nI.e. trying\n\n$ git cvsimport -d :pserver:ray007@cvs.drupal.org:/cvs/drupal-contrib -C\nlocalizer -a contributions/modules/localizer\nInitialized empty Git repository in /home/ray/drupal/modules/localizer/.git/\nfile 'CHANGELOG.txt; pre_rev:INITIAL; post_rev:1.1; dead:0; branch_point:0\n' not found in hash\nfatal: refs/heads/origin: not a valid SHA1\nfatal: master: not a valid SHA1\nwarning: You appear to be on a branch yet to be born.\nwarning: Forcing checkout of HEAD.\nfatal: just how do you expect me to merge 0 trees?\ncheckout failed: 256\n\nAny hint what I have done wrong?\n\nDoing a normal cvs checkout works, trying to do a git-cvsimport in the\nchecked-out directory fails with the same error again.\n\nFor trying out, username=anonymous, password=anonymous should work.\nOr to just see what's in the repo, you can have a look at\nhttp://cvs.drupal.org/viewcvs/drupal/contributions/modules/localizer/\nto see the repo I tried in the example above.\n\nMy perl knowledge is _very_ limited, but I'll have a look at the script too\n...\n\n-- \nbest regards\n\n Ray\n"},{"id":"36142","messageId":"Pine.LNX.4.63.0703030129220.22628@wbgn013.biozentrum.uni-wuerzburg.de","threadId":"6987","inReplyTo":"000c01c75b3c$31f91000$0b0aa8c0@abf.local","subject":"RE: Problems with git cvsimport","fromName":"Johannes Schindelin","fromEmail":"johannes.schindelin@gmx.de","sentAt":"2007-03-03T00:30:29Z","receivedAt":"2007-03-03T00:30:29Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"johannes.schindelin@gmx.de","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/127790?v=4"},"body":"Hi,\n\nOn Wed, 28 Feb 2007, Raimund Bauer wrote:\n\n> $ git cvsimport -d :pserver:ray007@cvs.drupal.org:/cvs/drupal-contrib -C\n> localizer -a contributions/modules/localizer\n> Initialized empty Git repository in /home/ray/drupal/modules/localizer/.git/\n> file 'CHANGELOG.txt; pre_rev:INITIAL; post_rev:1.1; dead:0; branch_point:0\n> ' not found in hash\n> fatal: refs/heads/origin: not a valid SHA1\n> fatal: master: not a valid SHA1\n\nThis looks to me as if you did not cleanup after failed attempts. Actually, I did, and I think it worked, \n\nI always tried with a new directory, that's not the reason.\n\nI've just tried it out on my home-box, which is a ubuntu edgy x86\ninstallation, and git-cvsimport seems to work quite fine here.\n\nOn our server, which is a suse 9.3 amd64 installation (with the latest\nsuse updates for that version), I just can't get it to run.
