We have 5 strong project ideas \n[1] and are working to select as much candidates as possible (at the \nmoment we're capped at 3-4). We're constrained not by the quality of \nproposals, but by mentor availability. Right now, we have only 6 mentors \n(3 primary, 3 co-mentors), and that limits how many promising \ncontributors we can take on.\n\nThat's where you come in.\n\nIf you have experience contributing to Git and can spare some time this \nsummer, we'd love to have you on board as a mentor or co-mentor. \nMentoring is one of the most direct ways to grow our community — many of \ntoday's long-term contributors got their start through exactly this kind \nof guidance. Karthik, Ayush and Chandra are examples of GSoC \ncontributors now turned into community members contributing outside GSoC.\n\nEven stepping up as a co-mentor makes a real difference.\n\nWe also have one self-proposed project from a candidate this year [2]. \nIf anyone is willing to mentor them specifically, that would be very \nwelcome.\n\nIf you're interested or have questions, please reply to this thread. \nEvery additional mentor means one more contributor we can nurture into a \nlong-term member of the Git community.\n\nThank you!\n\n[[ References ]]\n\n[1]: https://git.github.io/SoC-2026-Ideas/\n[2]: \nhttps://public-inbox.org/git/CAOAgETPhYra3XrevHptFu0x-se8D9ovRtgfomwFbhq9rSTXu6A@mail.gmail.com/\n\n--\nSivaraam\n\n"},{"id":"541345","messageId":"CAP8UFD3QhuO8JWpLeQXVQRXRUSb0P1zoXeNvhyf=vsS-EqP1rg@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"65465","inReplyTo":"7207a7f0-3806-4ff3-a3d2-2cdcc23f913a@gmail.com","subject":"Re: [GSoC] Call for Mentors - Help Us Welcome More Contributors to Git","fromName":"Christian Couder","fromEmail":"christian.couder@gmail.com","sentAt":"2026-04-10T11:04:58Z","receivedAt":"2026-04-10T11:05:11Z","isPatch":false,"body":"Hi,\n\nOn Fri, Apr 10, 2026 at 5:01 AM Kaartic Sivaraam\n<kaartic.sivaraam@gmail.com> wrote:\n>\n> Hi all,\n>\n> We have great news and a small challenge — and we need your help.\n>\n> This year, Git received 19 GSoC proposals,\n\nYeah, 19 valid proposals from applicants who spend time working on a\nmicro-project, on a proper proposal that they submitted to the mailing\nlist and often on a number of patches and reviews.\n\n> which speaks to the growing\n> interest in contributing to our project.
