Below is the detailed bug report. Thank you so much for your\ntime reading this.\n\n\nThank you for filling out a Git bug report!\nPlease answer the following questions to help us understand your issue.\n\nWhat did you do before the bug happened? (Steps to reproduce your issue)\n1. Right click in a directory (e.g. \"D:\\\") and select \"Git Bash here\"\nto boot the git bash installation.\n2. Switch my keyboard (Chinese(Simplified) Keyboard included in\nWindow's Chinese language package) to English mode by pressing Ctrl +\nSpace.\n3. type english letters (e.g.\"git\") in git bash. The program freezes.\nIt does not display the typed in letters. It cannot be shut down by\nclicking the \"X\" at the top right of the git bash window. It cannot be\nshut down by Task Manager as well.\n\nWhat did you expect to happen? (Expected behavior)\nGit Bash responds to my keyboard and displays what I type.\n\nWhat happened instead? (Actual behavior)\nGit Bash freezes. Does not show what I type (e.g. \"git\"). It cannot be\nshut down by clicking the \"X\" at the top right of the git bash window.\nIt cannot be shut down by Task Manager as well.\n\nWhat's different between what you expected and what actually happened?\nExpected to show what the user types in. Actually user input freezes\nthe program.\n\nAnything else you want to add:\n1. I can reproduce this problem on multiple machines.\n2. The problem also occur if launched from Start Menu.\n\nPlease review the rest of the bug report below.\nYou can delete any lines you don't wish to share.\n\n\n[System Info]\ngit version:\ngit version 2.53.0.windows.1\ncpu: x86_64\nbuilt from commit: a5512bdee37ed7142c233d21e2d347ffc4860ff3\nsizeof-long: 4\nsizeof-size_t: 8\nshell-path: D:/git-sdk-64-build-installers/usr/bin/sh\nrust: disabled\nfeature: fsmonitor--daemon\ngettext: enabled\nlibcurl: 8.18.0\nOpenSSL: OpenSSL 3.5.5 27 Jan 2026\nzlib: 1.3.1\nSHA-1: SHA1_DC\nSHA-256: SHA256_BLK\ndefault-ref-format: files\ndefault-hash: sha1\nuname: Windows 10.0 26200\ncompiler info: gnuc: 15.2\nlibc info: no libc information available\n$SHELL (typically, interactive shell): C:\\Program Files\\Git\\usr\\bin\\bash.exe\n\n\n[Enabled Hooks]\nnot run from a git repository - no hooks to show\n"},{"id":"536363","messageId":"aZZgM9LT8wDy4z0Z@fruit.crustytoothpaste.net","threadId":"65019","inReplyTo":"CAN3BLoV20U7HBXpSM=9aze-Pj_1y_Um6d1LodSeyPXDAp=sPPQ@mail.gmail.com","subject":"Re: [BUG REPORT] Git Bash for Windows Freezes When Receiving User Input","fromName":"brian m. carlson","fromEmail":"sandals@crustytoothpaste.net","sentAt":"2026-02-19T00:58:27Z","receivedAt":"2026-02-19T00:58:35Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"sandals@crustytoothpaste.net","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/497054?v=4"},"body":"On 2026-02-19 at 00:11:47, Yuxuan Liao wrote:\n> Hi Git Community,\n\nHi,\n\n> I encountered a Git Bash problem where it freezes when receiving user\n> input. It\nsounds like you're using Git for Windows, which tracks its issues at\nhttps://github.com/git-for-windows/git/issues.  That would be the proper\nplace to report problems with Git Bash or other non-Git components.\n\nWhen reporting the issue, you'll want to search to see if there's an\nexisting report.  Although I'm not the Git for Windows maintainer and\nyou should of course follow whatever directions they give you, it may be\nhelpful to test what happens when you open Git Bash from the Start menu\nas well as whether you can reproduce this running the bash environment\nunder Windows Terminal.  That would provide helpful context that might\nassist in tracking down the issue.\n\nI'm afraid I can't personally be of any other assistance because I don't\nuse Windows (and I don't have multiple keyboard layouts because all of\nthe languages I currently speak use Latin characters).\n\nBest of luck with your problem!\n-- \nbrian m. carlson (they/them)\nToronto, Ontario, CA\n"}]}
