I chose to replace the\nnumerous occurences of \"txt\" with \"adoc\" in howto-index.sh for consistency\nwithin the script. It could be argued that only the few instances which\nglob '*.txt' should be changed, of course.\n\nI also renamed the git-*.txt files in contrib/contacts and contrib/subtree\nwhile I was here. The only other file in contrib which might warrant that\ntreatment is contrib/mw-to-git/git-remote-mediawiki.txt. I skipped it as\nI am not sure whether it is actively maintained anymore. I have not yet looked at the meson build so I\ndidn't remember that should be checked. I still build a\nfull set of packages for rpm-based systems and there were a\nfew remaining items which were not covered by meson in\n2.49.0-rc0 (or so I thought). :)\n\nIn particular, it was contrib/contacts and contrib/subtree;\nalthough the latter is obviously not true and the former\nwon't be for long. It's probably a little\ncruel to make first time contributors who are diligent\nenough to read the docs then stumble over outdated\ninformation. :)\n\nDocumentation/howto/new-command.adoc references\napi-builtin.txt, but that was removed long before the adoc\nrenaming, in ec14d4ecb5 (builtin.h: take over documentation\nfrom api-builtin.txt, 2017-08-02).\n\nDocumentation/technical/partial-clone.adoc references\nDocumentation/rev-list-options.txt..\n\nMakefile references Documentation/technical/racy-git.txt.\n\nAnd there are a smattering of code comments which direct\nfolks to various Documentation/*.txt files.
