Manpage and reality disagree, so we have bug either in manpage, either in \"git send-email\".\n\nManpage for \"git send-email\" (v2.47.2) says:\n\n===\nThe header of the email is configurable via command-line options. If not specified on the command line, the user will be prompted with a ReadLine enabled interface to provide the\nnecessary information\n===\n\nAlso the manpage has this part, which states this again:\n===\n--subject=<string>\n           Specify the initial subject of the email thread. Only necessary if --compose is also set. If --compose is not set, this will be prompted for.\n===\n\nBut in reality \"git send-email\" simply gives error in case some headers are absent:\n\n# echo hello > /tmp/aaa\n# git send-email /tmp/aaa\n/tmp/aaa\nNo subject line in /tmp/aaa? at /usr/lib/git-core/git-send-email line 845.\n\nSo, please, fix either manpage or git.\n\nMy git version is 2.47.2, my OS is debian sid x86_64, running in Docker. git is installed via debian repos.\nMy git config is so (password is ommited, of course):\n\n===\n[user]\n        name = Askar Safin\n        email = safinaskar@zohomail.com\n\n[sendemail]\n        smtpServer = smtp.zoho.com\n        smtpServerPort = 587\n        smtpEncryption = tls\n        smtpUser = safinaskar\n        smtpPass = (password ommited)\n        from = \"Askar Safin <safinaskar@zohomail.com>\"\n        suppresscc = self\n===\n\nMy $TERM variable is equal to \"xterm\"\n\n--\nAskar Safin\nhttps://types.pl/@safinaskar\n\n"}]}
