{"thread":{"id":"59916","subject":"[ANNOUNCE] Git Merge 2023 updates","startedAt":"2023-06-26T21:31:09Z","lastAt":"2023-06-26T21:31:09Z","messageCount":1,"participants":["Taylor Blau"],"isPatch":false,"patchVersion":null,"patchTotal":null},"messages":[{"id":"478861","messageId":"ZJoDjnr+FkgrDsKA@nand.local","threadId":"59916","inReplyTo":null,"subject":"[ANNOUNCE] Git Merge 2023 updates","fromName":"Taylor Blau","fromEmail":"me@ttaylorr.com","sentAt":"2023-06-26T21:30:54Z","receivedAt":"2023-06-26T21:31:09Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"me@ttaylorr.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/301000140?v=4"},"body":"I wanted to share a couple of updates on the status of Git Merge:\n\n\t- GitHub will not be hosting an in-person event for Git Merge this\n\t\tyear.\n\n  - Instead, we will focus our efforts on hosting a virtual\n    Contributor's Summit, the details of which are TBD.\n\nThe decision to not host an in-person event was a difficult one to make,\nbut necessary given the current economic conditions and their effect on\ntravel budgets for conferences.\n\nWhen I asked[1] about which location folks preferred for Git Merge, a\nnumber of replies indicated that nobody on their team would be able to\nattend unless speaking. I think it's a safe assumption that other\nindividuals who would be travelling on behalf of their employer are in a\nsimilar situation.\n\nThat said, I plan on hosting an virtual Contributor's Summit in\nlate-September or so for folks who are working on Git to get together.\n\nThis year's will likely look a lot different than the Contributor's\nSummit we held last year in Chicago, IL. That said, a couple of\nrequests:\n\n  - If you are interested in joining, and aren't sure whether or not you\n    are able to, please feel free to shoot me a message off-list and\n    ask.\n\n  - If you have suggestions about the format of the day,\n    video-conferencing related suggestions, or anything else that you\n    think could improve the Contributor's Summit, please also feel more\n    than free to let me know.\n\nI regret not being able to see everybody in person this year, but I'm\nhopeful that we'll get a chance to make up for it next year :-).
