The style was clearly developed by people in the Git\nteaching industrial complex, who use macOS, not Linux.\n\nThe font-family list is Adelle, Georgia, Times New Roman. None of\nwhich are present in Linux systems (and the first one costs $540 USD).\nThen it falls back to \"serif\", which is already the default. So\nbasically on Linux there is no font. It has the same font as \"<p>Hello\nworld<p>\".\n\nI was told in university that the best fonts to read on screens are\nsans-serif (Arial), and in paper serif (Times New Roman). Which is why\nthe first thing I do in an HTML page is to add a style: body {\nfont-family: sans-serif; }. But somehow nobody in this lucrative\nindustry managed to do s/\\<serif\\>/sans-serif/ for Linux users.\n\nAnyway, enough ranting.\n\nAfter investigating all the different fonts specified in the list\n(present in macOS and Windows), I sent a fix [2] to pick similar fonts\nfor Linux. The best one is Roboto Slab [3], which looks very similar\nto Adelle, and it's free. Alternatively, DejaVu Serif [4] is a good\nsecond option present in many (most?) Linux systems, plus it's how it\nlooks on Windows with Georgia. And lastly, plain old (but not 90s old)\nsans-serif [5].\n\nAnd now it finally looks readable to me.\n\nCheers.\n\n[1] https://i.imgur.com/IGwT40T.png\n[2] https://github.com/git/git.github.io/pull/470\n[3] https://i.imgur.com/iD4rTv8.png\n[4] https://i.imgur.com/hVu3VNS.png\n[5] https://i.imgur.com/7KXVsQa.png\n\n-- \nFelipe Contreras\n"},{"id":"410952","messageId":"CAP8UFD32sjT_nttQrxknr=4EYUQLMebg=KhdGmMJ7j+YUmTjwg@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"54725","inReplyTo":"CAMP44s28HEUUvW8hs5PxrW5NwwDdpou-qsNm8nx3kMk_g0brNw@mail.gmail.com","subject":"Re: [ANNOUNCE] Git Rev News edition 69","fromName":"Christian Couder","fromEmail":"christian.couder@gmail.com","sentAt":"2020-11-28T08:40:28Z","receivedAt":"2020-11-28T22:17:55Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"christian.couder@gmail.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/208954?v=4"},"body":"On Sat, Nov 28, 2020 at 9:27 AM Felipe Contreras\n<felipe.contreras@gmail.com> wrote:\n\n> A nit-pick that has bothered me for years...\n>\n> The font seems to be the same as git-scm.com, which is horrendous [1]\n> in Linux.\n\nI agree that the fonts haven't looked great to me either.\n\n> After investigating all the different fonts specified in the list\n> (present in macOS and Windows), I sent a fix [2] to pick similar fonts\n> for Linux.\n\nThanks for your pull request!
