You may\nget more responses in the future if you include the text inline, since\nfolks will be more likely to read your message. (I was personally\nsurprised to see the list accepted PDFs; I did not think it would.)\n\nI'm not an expert on the merge machinery and especially not on the union\nalgorithm, but I believe what you're seeing here is due to using a\nmerge-based rebase. In this case, your rebase is removing lines a and b\non one side, but the other side has y, a, and b. Instead of a conflict,\nyou're getting the union: y, a, and b. If you have an empty set of\nfeature lines on one side, and a set with some items on the other, then\nthe union is the latter set.\n\nI agree this is not especially useful and probably not what you wanted.\nThe documentation does state, \"Do not use this if you do not understand\nthe implications,\" implying that it's tricky to understand, so I'm not\nsurprised that it's confusing or has unexpected behavior.\n\nOf course, someone with more familiarity with the merge machinery or\nthis option may have a better explanation for this than I do, or\npossibly a patch if I've misunderstood and this option is broken.\nHopefully some such person will chime in.\n-- \nbrian m. carlson: Houston, Texas, US\n"},{"id":"402519","messageId":"xmqqpn8c4eme.fsf@gitster.c.googlers.com","threadId":"53952","inReplyTo":"20200731010541.GI6540@camp.crustytoothpaste.net","subject":"Re: Git union issue","fromName":"Junio C Hamano","fromEmail":"gitster@pobox.com","sentAt":"2020-07-31T02:12:09Z","receivedAt":"2020-07-31T02:12:16Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"gitster@pobox.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/54884?v=4"},"body":"\"brian m. carlson\" <sandals@crustytoothpaste.net> writes:\n\n> folks will be more likely to read your message.
