You can also run\n this from the command line with the following commands:\n autoload -Uz compinstall\n compinstall\n if you don't want to configure completion now.\n\n (0) Don't turn on completion.\n---\n\nIf you don't turn on completion, the completion doesn't work for *any* command.\n\nI think most users would understand why git completion doesn't work if\ncompletion doesn't work for any command.\n\n> In any case, the patch in question is the only thing in flight that\n> conflicts with Felipe's 29 patch series, and the change to zstyle\n> line is common between both efforts, so it is just between adding\n> the \"autoload -Uz compinit && compinit\" near the fpath=(...) thing\n> or leaving it out.\n\nI would rather leave it out.\n\nIf we add this configuration, I would do it in a separate patch that\nincludes text explaining what that line is, and why it might be\nneeded.\n\n-- \nFelipe Contreras\n"},{"id":"408652","messageId":"xmqqtuuc7wgu.fsf@gitster.c.googlers.com","threadId":"53788","inReplyTo":"CAMP44s2DR=pV3frOePMbSyikA-KonZ5XWD7o5SqKhUbzohAFtQ@mail.gmail.com","subject":"Re: [PATCH] Fix zsh installation instructions","fromName":"Junio C Hamano","fromEmail":"gitster@pobox.com","sentAt":"2020-10-29T17:50:25Z","receivedAt":"2020-10-29T17:50:34Z","isPatch":true,"sender":{"key":"gitster@pobox.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/54884?v=4"},"body":"Felipe Contreras <felipe.contreras@gmail.com> writes:\n\n> On Tue, Oct 27, 2020 at 2:00 PM Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com> wrote:\n>>\n>> Лёша Огоньков <lesha.ogonkov@gmail.com> writes:\n>\n>> So,... even though it may look to more experienced zsh users that it\n>> is unnecessary to document it in this file, in your opinion, it is a\n>> good idea to mention \"compinit\" to help less experienced users?\n>\n> The first time you run zsh you are greeted with a configuration dialog\n> that includes this question:\n\nAhh, yes, that reminds me why I gave up trying it out the last time.\nThe large dialog asking my permission to contaminate ~/.* was simply\ntoo scary and distasteful for a \"dip my toe in the water\" sightseer.\n\n> If you don't turn on completion, the completion doesn't work for *any* command.\n>\n> I think most users would understand why git completion doesn't work if\n> completion doesn't work for any command.\n\nOK, that sort of makes sense.\n\n> I would rather leave it out.\n\nMakes sense.
