In the coming summers, I am really looking forward to\ncontribute to git as a part of the GSoC program. And for the same, I\nam working on the \"Use test_path_is_* functions in test scripts\"\nmicroproject. As a part of the same, I found a few test scripts where\nthe 'test -f' can potentially be replaced by 'test_path_is_file'\nfunction. I changed one test script and it works fine. So, should I\njust commit this change now (the change looks very trivial to me) and\nif not, how to proceed from here?\n\nKind regards,\nHarshit Jain\nSenior Undergraduate, IIT Delhi\n"},{"id":"393408","messageId":"20200318192719.1127-1-shouryashukla.oo@gmail.com","threadId":"53022","inReplyTo":"CACuU+s9BsWVCMXpp6KgJ-NaDuadcegZ2kVSMmuAYO9YquTK8LA@mail.gmail.com","subject":"Re:[GSoC] Microproject for git","fromName":"Shourya Shukla","fromEmail":"shouryashukla.oo@gmail.com","sentAt":"2020-03-18T19:27:19Z","receivedAt":"2020-03-18T19:27:30Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"shouryashukla.oo@gmail.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/43680618?v=4"},"body":"Hello Harshit,\n\n> I found a few test scripts where the 'test -f' can potentially be replaced by 'test_path_is_file'\n> function.\n\nThat's nice!\n\n> I changed one test script and it works fine. Running a changed test without 'make' is\nbasically running the old test all over again.\n\nYou could also maybe do some code modernizations. What I did as my microproject\nmight be of some help:\n\nhttps://lore.kernel.org/git/20200118083326.9643-1-shouryashukla.oo@gmail.com/\n\nAlso, make sure the commit message is descriptive and does not contain any\nextra whitespaces. I think you must know by now that we submit patches here\nvia the mailing list and not pull requests.\n\nRegards,\nShourya Shukla\n"},{"id":"393413","messageId":"CA+CkUQ-gRMR2Q2ZCB=oa0mUV9fxtPKAfnpeG+mPZU_PqPKXVbg@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"53022","inReplyTo":"20200318192719.1127-1-shouryashukla.oo@gmail.com","subject":"Re: [GSoC] Microproject for git","fromName":"Hariom verma","fromEmail":"hariom18599@gmail.com","sentAt":"2020-03-18T20:05:24Z","receivedAt":"2020-03-18T20:05:39Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"hariom18599@gmail.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/37576387?v=4"},"body":"Hi Harshit,\n\nOn Thu, Mar 19, 2020 at 12:58 AM Shourya Shukla\n> I think you must know by now that we submit patches here\n> via the mailing list and not pull requests.\n\nI addition to what Shourya said, you can also make it easier on\nyourself by using GitGitGadget, which takes out the pain of sending\npatches in the required format via email, see\nhttps://gitgitgadget.github.io/ for details.\n\nRegards,\nHariom\n"},{"id":"393440","messageId":"b7173e2a-a1d1-8354-4b9b-cbef45c6093d@gmail.com","threadId":"53022","inReplyTo":"CA+CkUQ-gRMR2Q2ZCB=oa0mUV9fxtPKAfnpeG+mPZU_PqPKXVbg@mail.gmail.com","subject":"Re: [GSoC] Microproject for git","fromName":"Kaartic Sivaraam","fromEmail":"kaartic.sivaraam@gmail.com","sentAt":"2020-03-19T08:03:07Z","receivedAt":"2020-03-19T08:04:05Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"kaartic.sivaraam@gmail.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/12448084?v=4"},"body":"Hi Harshit,\n\nOn 19-03-2020 01:35, Hariom verma wrote:\n> Hi Harshit,\n> \n> On Thu, Mar 19, 2020 at 12:58 AM Shourya Shukla\n>> I think you must know by now that we submit patches here\n>> via the mailing list and not pull requests.\n> \n> I addition to what Shourya said, you can also make it easier on\n> yourself by using GitGitGadget, which takes out the pain of sending\n> patches in the required format via email, see\n> https://gitgitgadget.github.io/ for details.\n> \n\nThere's also a MyFirstContribution[1] document which could help you. \nParticularly, there's a section[2] which contains step-by-step \ninformation about how to send patches using GitGitGadget.\n\nGood luck with your contribution :)\n\n[1]: https://git-scm.com/docs/MyFirstContribution\n[2]: https://git-scm.com/docs/MyFirstContribution#howto-ggg\n\n-- \nSivaraam\n"}]}
