Do you have them?\n\nAh, another possibility.  Does your \"cd\" say anything\nunnecessary even when running scripts, not interactively?  For\nexample, do you have CDPATH set and _exported_ to the\nenvironment? (I do have/use CDPATH.)\nI started a new shell that does not have CDPATH and 'make install'\nworks fine.
