Well, either that or I misunderstand the\ndocumentation. Then it might be an indication that the documentation\ncan benefit from clarification.\n\nI described my issue in a question on\n[Stackoverflow](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/58953115/), but I\nfigured I'd get more informed answers here.\n\nSo, the documentation for `git-fetch` says:\n> By default, any tag that points into the histories being fetched is also fetched; the effect is to fetch tags that point at branches that you are interested in.\n\nHowever doing `git fetch origin master` I do *not* get any tags. Doing\n`--tags` on the other hand fetches *all* of the tags, defying the\nbenefit spelled out in \" the effect is to fetch tags that point at\nbranches that you are interested in\".\n\nWhat am I missing? Is this indeed a bug (either in implementation or\nin documentation), or am I missing something obvious. Also, how can I\nforce the desired behaviour (fetch the tags in the history, but only\nthose).\n\nSzabolcs\n"},{"id":"386818","messageId":"20191122125335.GA20732@sigill.intra.peff.net","threadId":"52309","inReplyTo":"CAGn30R_C0BDCF-v0Ok5ekto9LK9wHUfHaKQi94wrKbaWaX6ezw@mail.gmail.com","subject":"Re: How to fetch all tags in the history of selected branch, but only those tags?","fromName":"Jeff King","fromEmail":"peff@peff.net","sentAt":"2019-11-22T12:53:35Z","receivedAt":"2019-11-22T12:53:37Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"peff@peff.net","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/45925?v=4"},"body":"On Fri, Nov 22, 2019 at 10:58:07AM +0100, Szelp, A.
