Git doesn't have one of those; we instead use the mailing\nlist for reporting issues. We've considered using a bug tracker in the\npast, but the idea hasn't caught on yet.\n\nThe GitHub project is a mirror; it isn't the canonical resource, and the\nGit project doesn't use it for issues or pull requests. Both of these\nare also the same policy as for the Linux kernel[0], which you may or\nmay not use.\n\nIf you're looking for an easy way to check off a compliance box, you may\nneed to work with your management and/or auditors to see what approach\nyou use for other software (such as Linux) that has nontraditional bug\nreporting practices. If you typically use a Linux distro that addresses\nthis issue for you, then you'll probably want to use Git from that\nsource as well.\n\nAlternatively, you can use Git for Windows on a non-Windows system; it\nshould compile and run just fine on Linux, macOS, and Windows, although\nit tends to carry more patches than Git itself.\n\n[0] Yes, kernel.org has a bug tracker, but it is known to be incomplete\nand many issues are raised only on the various mailing lists.\n-- \nbrian m. carlson: Houston, Texas, US\nOpenPGP: https://keybase.io/bk2204\n"},{"id":"378855","messageId":"CY4PR2201MB1559CC4E242F3689124D99AF9AF30@CY4PR2201MB1559.namprd22.prod.outlook.com","threadId":"51464","inReplyTo":"CABPp-BFr5TLNnjFxj_YRmt=z17U=ehxz1WjhqxDCA0aNf6v6JQ@mail.gmail.com","subject":"RE: EXTERNAL: Re: List of Known Issues for a particular release","fromName":"Mark T. Please clarify what the test_expect_failure indicates.\n\nPlease don't top-post on this list.\n\ntest_expect_failure (as well as other helper functions in the test\nharness library, such as test_expect_success, test_must_fail,\ntest_might_fail, etc.) are explained in t/README.  By its definition,\nit technically satisfies \"list of known issues\" as you asked for.\nHowever, most software products that publish a list of known issues\nhas probably curated problems that users are likely to see or be\ncurious about, and which they want to inform users of both to reduce\nsupport load and help users avoid problems.\n\nThis list is not curated in any such way.  It's just a list of issues\ndevelopers thought to document for themselves and/or other developers.\nIt is thus way different than what you might want:\n\n(1) There is evidence that some have used it for \"In an ideal world,\nthis thing should support this feature too in which case I'd expect it\nto behave a certain way that it doesn't yet.\"  The line between\nfeature (what works is fine but we could make it better) and bug (it's\nnot really correct if it doesn't do it this way) gets really blurry at\ntimes, and you'd pick a much different tradeoff in communication\nbetween developers than you would in communication from developers to\nusers; with other developers you spend a lot more time talking about\ninternals and goals and direction we'd like to move the software in.\n\n(2) Also, some of these \"known breakages\" could be in corner cases\nthat are very unlikely to be hit be users, and perhaps not only likely\nto be hit by individual users, but unlikely that anyone anywhere will\never hit that error (some of the merge recursive tests I added might\nfall into that category).\n\n(3) There may also be cases where someone once thought that optimal\nbehavior would be a little different and that they were planning to\nimplement more features, and then later changed their mind but forgot\nto clean up the testcases.\n\n(4) ...and that's just a few off the top of my head.  I'm sure the\nlist has several other things that make it not quite match what you\nwant.\n\nAs such, Brian's answer to your question elsewhere in this thread is\nprobably better than mine, but if by chance you are just being forced\nto go through a box checking exercise and there's no reason for\nneeding these results other than that someone asked that they be\nprovided (I sometimes had to go through such exercises when I worked\nat Sandia National Labs years ago), then technically the command I\ngave you could be used to satisfy it.\n\n> Below is the output from the provided command:\n<snip>\n\nNot sure why you included this.\n\n> Regards,\n> Mark\n\n\nBest Wishes,\nElijah\n"}]}
