This is not true. It is still required to explicitly pass this\noption to the command.\n\nMy proposition is, instead of updating the documentation, is to set the\n--progress flag to true by default, and leave the rest as-is for backward\ncompatibility. If one does not wish to see the progress, it is possible\nto silence it with -q or --quiet option.\n\nNotice that such behavior will be identical for commands like clone,\nwhich display progress unless silenced with -q or --quiet.\n\nAlso submodule--helper seems to have trouble handling the --progress\noption. For example,\n`$ git submodule update --init modulename --progress`\nprints\n`error: unknown option `progress'`,\nbut running\n`$ git submodule update --init --progress modulename`\nworks fine.\n\nAlso progress is not reported for add subcommand even with\n--progress option set.\n\nNote: --progress was added to submodule with commit 6d33e1c2821.\n\nPlease let me know what you think about it.\n\nTaking advantage of the opportunity, I would like to greet everyone -\nit is my first post to git's mailing list.\n"}]}
