I find many suggestions\nto convert these to git tags by calling git tag -a <tag-name> <branch-name>\nbut this gives something like this\n\n               C4\n               |\n               V\n    T -> C3 -> C2\n               |\n               V\n               C1\n\nthat is, I still have a branch with only 1 commit C3 and I have a tag T\npointing to that commit.  Also, T will have a current timestamp.  I'd\nprefer to get\n\n               C4\n               |\n               V\n          T -> C2\n               |\n               V\n               C1\n\nwhere T takes the commit message and date from C3.
