Commits prefixed with\n'-' are only in 'pu' (proposed updates) while commits prefixed with\n'+' are in 'next'.  The ones marked with '.' do not appear in any of\nthe integration branches, but I am still holding onto them.\n\nThe tip of 'next' hasn't been rewound yet, but the states of many\ntopics that were marked to \"Cook in 'next'\" read \"Will merge to\n'master'\" now.  I'll probably start merging a handful of topics that\nhave been in 'next' down to 'master' tonight (they appear at the\nbottom of \"log --first-parent master..pu\" output).\n\nThe three GSoC \"rewrite in C\" topics are still unclassified in this\n\"What's cooking\" report, but I am hoping that we can have them in\n'next' sooner rather than later.  I got an impression that Dscho\nwanted a chance for the final clean-up on some of them, so I am not\ndoing anything hasty yet at this moment, though.\n\nYou can find the changes described here in the integration branches\nof the repositories listed at\n\n    http://git-blame.blogspot.com/p/git-public-repositories.html\n\n--------------------------------------------------\n[New Topics]\n\n* ab/fsck-skiplist (2018-09-12) 10 commits\n - When\nchecking if we can reuse an on-disk delta, the first topic\nallows base_entry to be NULL when we find an object that's\nnot in the packing list. But the latter topic introduces a\ncall to in_same_island(), which needs to look at\nbase_entry->idx.oid. When these two features are used\ntogether, we might try to dereference a NULL base_entry.\n\nIn practice, this doesn't really happen. We'd generally only\nuse delta islands when packing to disk, since the whole\npoint is to optimize the pack for serving fetches later. And\nthe new delta-reuse code relies on having used reachability\nbitmaps to determine the set of objects, which we would\ntypically only do when serving an actual fetch.\n\nHowever, it is technically possible to combine these\nfeatures. And even without doing so, building with\n\"SANITIZE=address,undefined\" will cause t5310.46 to\ncomplain.  Even though that test does not have delta islands\nenabled, we still take the address of the NULL entry to pass\nto in_same_island(). That function then promptly returns\nwithout dereferencing the value when it sees that islands\nare not enabled, but it's enough to trigger a sanitizer\nerror.\n\nThe solution is straight-forward: when both features are\nused together, we should pass the oid of the found base to\nin_same_island().\n\nThis is tricky to do inside a single \"if\" statement. And\nafter the merge in f3504ea3dd (Merge branch\n'cc/delta-islands', 2018-09-17), that \"if\" condition is\nalready getting pretty unwieldy. So this patch moves the\nlogic into a helper function, where we can easily use\nmultiple return paths. The result is a bit longer, but the\nlogic should be much easier to follow.\n\nSigned-off-by: Jeff King <peff@peff.net>\n---\n builtin/pack-objects.c | 68 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++----------\n 1 file changed, 52 insertions(+), 16 deletions(-)\n\ndiff --git a/builtin/pack-objects.c b/builtin/pack-objects.c\nindex 5041818ddf..27cb674124 100644\n--- a/builtin/pack-objects.c\n+++ b/builtin/pack-objects.c\n@@ -1470,6 +1470,57 @@ static void cleanup_preferred_base(void)\n \tdone_pbase_paths_num = done_pbase_paths_alloc = 0;\n }\n \n+/*\n+ * Return 1 iff the object specified by \"delta\" can be sent\n+ * literally as a delta against the base in \"base_sha1\". Something like:\n\n  struct object_id ext_oid;\n  struct object_id *base_oid;\n\n  base = packlist_find(&to_pack, base_sha1, NULL);\n  if (base) {\n\tbase_oid = &base->idx.oid;\n\t*base_out = base;\n  }\n  else if (thin && bitmap_has_sha1_in_uninteresting(bitmap_git, base_sha1)) {\n\thashcpy(ext_oid.hash, base_sha1);\n\tbase_oid = &ext_oid;\n\t*base_out = NULL;\n  } else {\n\treturn 0;\n  }\n\n  if (use_island_marks && !in_same_island(&delta->idx.oid, base_oid))\n\treturn 0;\n\n  return 1;\n\nThat's less repetitive, but I feel like it's harder to follow which\nvariables are valid when.\n\n> > +               if (can_reuse_delta(base_ref, entry, &base_entry)) {\n> >                         oe_set_type(entry, entry->in_pack_type);\n> >                         SET_SIZE(entry, in_pack_size); /* delta size */\n> >                         SET_DELTA_SIZE(entry, in_pack_size);\n> \n> Without being at all familiar with this code, this looks sane to me.\n> Just had a small nit about the missing closing ')'.\n\nThanks for the review!\n\n-Peff\n"}]}
