They might also in the future be\nused by other software using the same packet line protocol. So instead\nof having them in t0021/rot13-filter.pl, let's extract them into a new\nGit/Packet.pm module.\n\nChanges since the previous version\n~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\n\n  - Patch 1/8 is new. It fixes a list comparison bug that existed\n    since the beginning of t0021/rot13-filter.pl.\n\n  - Patch 2/8 is much improved. It now checks for unexpected EOF in\n    all the code paths and introduces a new\n    packet_required_key_val_read() function.\n\n  - Patchs 3/8, 4/8 and 5/8 have not changed since v1.\n\n  - Patch 6/8 is new. It adds a small helper function.\n\n  - Patch 7/8 is much improved. It now describe better all the changes\n    and better check that the capabilities we advertise are supported\n    by the remote.\n\n  - Patch 8/8 has been improved. It contains the Makefile change\n    suggested by Dscho.\n\nLinks\n~~~~~\n\nThis patch series is on the following branch:\n\nhttps://github.com/chriscool/git/commits/gl-prep-external-odb\n\nVersion 1 of this patch series is on the mailing list here:\n\nhttps://public-inbox.org/git/20171019123030.17338-1-chriscool@tuxfamily.org/\n\nIt is also available in the following branch:\n\nhttps://github.com/chriscool/git/commits/gl-prep-external-odb1\n\nThis patch series was extracted from previous \"Add initial\nexperimental external ODB support\" patch series.\n\nVersion 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 of this previous series are on the mailing\nlist here:\n\nhttps://public-inbox.org/git/20160613085546.11784-1-chriscool@tuxfamily.org/\nhttps://public-inbox.org/git/20160628181933.24620-1-chriscool@tuxfamily.org/\nhttps://public-inbox.org/git/20161130210420.15982-1-chriscool@tuxfamily.org/\nhttps://public-inbox.org/git/20170620075523.26961-1-chriscool@tuxfamily.org/\nhttps://public-inbox.org/git/20170803091926.1755-1-chriscool@tuxfamily.org/\nhttps://public-inbox.org/git/20170916080731.13925-1-chriscool@tuxfamily.org/\n\nThey are also available in the following branches:\n\nhttps://github.com/chriscool/git/commits/gl-external-odb12\nhttps://github.com/chriscool/git/commits/gl-external-odb22\nhttps://github.com/chriscool/git/commits/gl-external-odb61\nhttps://github.com/chriscool/git/commits/gl-external-odb239\nhttps://github.com/chriscool/git/commits/gl-external-odb373\nhttps://github.com/chriscool/git/commits/gl-external-odb411\n\n\nChristian Couder (8):\n  t0021/rot13-filter: fix list comparison\n  t0021/rot13-filter: refactor packet reading functions\n  t0021/rot13-filter: improve 'if .. elsif .. else' style\n  t0021/rot13-filter: improve error message\n  t0021/rot13-filter: add packet_initialize()\n  t0021/rot13-filter: refactor checking final lf\n  t0021/rot13-filter: add capability functions\n  Add Git/Packet.pm from parts of t0021/rot13-filter.pl\n\n perl/Git/Packet.pm      | 168 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++\n perl/Makefile           |   1 +\n t/t0021/rot13-filter.pl | 127 ++++++++++--------------------------\n 3 files changed, 202 insertions(+), 94 deletions(-)\n create mode 100644 perl/Git/Packet.pm\n\n-- \n2.15.0.7.ga9ff306ed9.dirty\n\n"},{"id":"331883","messageId":"20171105213836.11717-2-chriscool@tuxfamily.org","threadId":"47123","inReplyTo":"20171105213836.11717-1-chriscool@tuxfamily.org","subject":"[PATCH v2 1/8] t0021/rot13-filter: fix list comparison","fromName":"Christian Couder","fromEmail":"christian.couder@gmail.com","sentAt":"2017-11-05T21:38:29Z","receivedAt":"2017-11-05T21:38:55Z","isPatch":true,"sender":{"key":"christian.couder@gmail.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/208954?v=4"},"body":"Since edcc8581 (\"convert: add filter.<driver>.process\noption\", 2016-10-16) when t0021/rot13-filter.pl was created, list\ncomparison in this perl script have been quite broken.\n\npacket_txt_read() returns a 2-element list, and the right hand\nside of \"eq\" also has a list with (two, elements), but \"eq\" takes\nthe last element of the list on each side, and compares them. function help read and write capabilities.\n\nTo make them more generic and make it easy to reuse them,\nthe following changes are made:\n\n- we don't require capabilities to come in a fixed order,\n- we allow duplicates,\n- we check that the remote supports the capabilities we\n  advertise,\n- we don't check if the remote declares any capability we\n  don't know about.\n\nThe reason behind the last change is that the protocol\nshould work using only the capabilities that both ends\nsupport, and it should not stop working if one end starts\nto advertise a new capability.\n\nDespite those Neither of these cases\ngives it a key (nor val), but it is not treated as an error.\n\nThat is curious, isn't it?\n\nBy the way, is it just me who finds this \"unless\" even less\nunerstandable than the original in packet_txt_read() you modeled\nthis one after?  The original depended on packet_bin_read() to die\non an unexpected EOF, so its \"unless\" made some sense (we know we\ngot some input, and it is an error for the input not to end with LF\nunless it is an empty string). I dunno.\n\nI can remove the \"unless\" and make it easier to understand like this:\n\n  if ( $res == -1 ) {\n          return ( $res, $buf );\n  }\n  if ( $buf =~ s/^$key=// and $buf ne '' ) ) {\n          return ( $res, $buf );\n  }\n  die \"bad $key: '$buf'\";\n\nOr to keep it short just:\n\n  if ( $res == -1 or ( $buf =~ s/^$key=// and $buf ne '' ) ) {\n          return ( $res, $buf );\n  }\n  die \"bad $key: '$buf'\";\n"}]}
