You also have to be\nmore precise than that: do you mean a Linux-based image or a Windows-based\none?\n\nAs far as a Docker image with Git in it: I do not think that this image\nitself would be useful. So you can fetch Git repositories? What then?\n\nWhat most developers do who need Git in their Docker image is to start\nwith the other requirements: typically a toolchain such as GCC. Or even a\nstack such as LAMP or MEAN.\n\nPersonally, I use Docker images as base for the build agents used to\nperform a few tasks in the Git for Windows project, so they start with the\nbare-bones Windows image, add the Visual Studio Team Services build agent,\nand then take things from there.\n\nSo essentially, I do not think that having a base image just with Git\nwould be useful. It is much more useful to *add* Git to other base images,\nand that is easily done:\n\nLinux (Ubuntu/Debian):\n\n\tsudo apt-get install git\n\n\nWindows:\n\n\t$Version = \"2.14.3\"\n\t$Base = \"https://github.com/git-for-windows/git/releases/download/v\"\n\t$Url = $Base + $Version + \"MinGit-\" + $Version + \"-64-bit.zip\"\n\t$Path = \"$HOME\\Downloads\\MinGit.zip\"\n\t$Dir = \"$HOME\\MinGit\"\n\t$WebClient = New-Object System.Net.WebClient\n\t$WebClient.DownloadFile($Url, $Path)\n\tAdd-Type -AssemblyName System.IO.Compression.FileSystem\n\t[System.IO.Compression.ZipFile]::ExtractToDirectory($Path, $Dir)\n\n\nCiao,\nJohannes\n"}]}
