The internship term is 3 months. Unlike other\nprograms like GSoC, individual projects (rather than the program) cover\nthe stipend, which is $6500 this round.\n\nThe big questions on whether we can make this happen are:\n\n 1. Do we have mentor interest?\n\n I'm willing to mentor, but I'd like to hear whether other people\n are interested, as well. Either way I can take responsibility for\n the administrative bits.\n\n We could probably use some effort brushing up our project-ideas\n page. I've also considered whether it would make sense to do a\n \"mixed bag\" project where somebody works on multiple smaller\n projects, and we try to get them more involved in day-to-day\n project activities (after all, very few of us started working on\n Git with a dedicated 3-month project; people typically ease into it\n by fixing small problems, reviewing code, etc).\n\n 2. Do we have the money (and want to spend it on this)?\n\n The Git project does have money to cover at least one intern.\n\n I'm looking into securing outside funding, so that we don't have to\n use project funds. If for whatever reason that doesn't happen, is\n this something we want to spend project money on?\n\n (My opinion is yes, but I'd like to hear what others in the\n community think).\n\n-Peff\n"},{"id":"327538","messageId":"xmqqk21ddgz7.fsf@gitster.mtv.corp.google.com","threadId":"46698","inReplyTo":"20170901223059.xsbcpqff45mnblnj@sigill.intra.peff.net","subject":"Re: Git in Outreachy round 15?","fromName":"Junio C Hamano","fromEmail":"gitster@pobox.com","sentAt":"2017-09-05T02:19:56Z","receivedAt":"2017-09-05T02:20:10Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"gitster@pobox.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/54884?v=4"},"body":"Jeff King <peff@peff.net> writes:\n\n> 2. It would be nice\nif the intern stays in our community, but I do not even mind if the\ninvestment follows the intern elsewhere and enrich other open source\nprojects.\n\nIt is a different matter if our mentor pool is rich enough to give\nsufficient support and training to the intern, but if you are\nvolunteering to mentor, I wouldn't have any worries. I am still dotting i's and crossing t's, but I am\npretty sure I have outside funding lined up anyway, though.\n\n> It is a different matter if our mentor pool is rich enough to give\n> sufficient support and training to the intern, but if you are\n> volunteering to mentor, I wouldn't have any worries. The guidelines are\nat:\n\n https://www.outreachy.org/mentor/landing-page-requirements/\n\nTiming-wise, the application period opens this Thursday. So I'll plan to\nwork on it over the next day or two, but I'd appreciate any help that\nothers can provide (even if I end up as the only available mentor).\n\n-Peff\n"},{"id":"327606","messageId":"CAP8UFD16Sg9q1TDku7gJZUCYB03GaBx0mNXjvE6A4W6zTxY6Lw@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"46698","inReplyTo":"20170901223059.xsbcpqff45mnblnj@sigill.intra.peff.net","subject":"Re: Git in Outreachy round 15?","fromName":"Christian Couder","fromEmail":"christian.couder@gmail.com","sentAt":"2017-09-05T21:06:34Z","receivedAt":"2017-09-05T21:06:44Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"christian.couder@gmail.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/208954?v=4"},"body":"Hi,\n\nOn Sat, Sep 2, 2017 at 12:30 AM, Jeff King <peff@peff.net> wrote:\n>\n> The big questions on whether we can make this happen are:\n>\n> 1.
