There are several reasons why we'll prefer not to\nuse the shell script. My project intends to convert the subcommands into\nC code, thus making them builtins. This will increase Git's portability\nand hence the efficiency of working with the git-submodule commands.\nLink to the complete proposal: [1]\n\nMentors:\nStefan Beller <sbeller@google.com>\nChristian Couder <christian.couder@gmail.com>\n\nUPDATES:\n\nFollowing are the updates about my ongoing project:\n\n1. sync and status: The improvisions for the ported functions were\n   implemented. I'm planning on floating a series patches,\n   containing all the ported functions put together, but\n   recently encountered some issue with the get_submodule_displaypath\n   function, I haven't yet posted an updated version of the above\n   ported function.The issues are now resolved. Hence, soon I plan\n   on posting their updated versions.\n\n2. deinit: As planned for the week, this submodule subcommand is\n   ported from shell to C. But still, there are some tests, the\n   ported functions are failing. Along with the updated versions\n   of 'status' and 'sync', I'll also be posting a WIP patch\n   about this subcommand ported.\n\n3. summary: Porting of this subcommand is still underway. I choose\n   to do the porting of this subcommand after deinit as it was\n   smaller and hence porting this subcommand is still left.\n\n4. count_slashes: A function was introduced in dir.h for reducing\n   the code-duplication as similar functions exist in apply.c and\n   builtin/show-branch.c\n\nPLAN FOR WEEK-5 (13 June 2017 to 19 June 2017):\n\n1. sync and status: Since the changes are ready, I plan to post the\n   complete series of the updated version soon as a single series of\n   patches.\n\n2. summary: As this is still underway, I'll be finishing this submodule\n   subcommand in the following week.\n\n3. foreach: To unblock the conversion of this submodule subcommand,\n   I'll be focusing on porting the original cmd_foreach, and\n   will not be including the BUG-FIX patch here.\n   An additional NEEDSWORK comment will be added to the ported function,\n   stating the reported bug, and not resolving the bug in this patch\n   series.\n\n4. deinit: As mentioned earlier, there is still some debugging left for\n   the ported functions. I plan to debug them and discuss the patch\n   for further improvisions this week.\n\n[1]: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1krxVLooWl--75Pot3dazhfygR3wCUUWZWzTXtK1L-xU/\n\nThanks,\nPrathamesh Chavan\n"}]}
