The org admins\nwere Peff and I.\n\nThe application deadline is February 9, 2017, i.e. a bit more than 2\nweeks from now. So, we should decide quickly whether or not to\nparticipate, and if so work on the application.\n\nOn my side, I've been struggling to find some time budget to allocate to\nGit since last year and I couldn't even keep up with discussions on this\nlist :-(. Last summer, I thought that being an org co-admin would help,\nbut it didn't. So, as much as possible, I'd like to avoid being an org\nadmin this year. It's not a lot of work (much, much less than being a\nmentor!), but if I manage to get some time to work for Git, I'd rather\ndo that on coding and reviewing this year.\n\nSo, a bunch of unanswered questions:\n\n* Does the git.git community want to participate in GSoC this year?\n Actually, I have mixed feelings about this: I do like GSoC, but it\n seems we lack reviewer time more than coder time, and GSoC does not\n make it better. OTOH, a GSoC participant is a potential reviewer in\n the long run ...\n\n* Does the libgit2 community want to participate in GSoC? If so, we\n should clarify the application process. Last year, I wrote (too late):\n\n > It's essentially too late to change this for this year, but next\n > time we should discuss earlier about how we want to organize this\n > git.git/libgit2 thing. For example, I think it would make little sense\n > to have a git.git microproject and then apply for a libgit2 project\n > since we have very different ways of interacting. And honestly, right\n > now the application is really git.git-centric so I don't think it\n > attracts students towards libgit2. So, if you want to attract more\n > students, we should work on that.\n\nIf the answer to one of the above question is yes, then:\n\n* Who's willing to mentor? and to admin?\n\n* We need to write the application, i.e. essentially polish and update\n the text here: https://git.github.io/SoC-2016-Org-Application/ and\n update the list of project ideas and microprojects :\n https://git.github.io/SoC-2017-Ideas/\n https://git.github.io/SoC-2016-Microprojects/\n\nCheers,\n\n-- \nMatthieu Moy\nhttp://www-verimag.imag.fr/~moy/\n"},{"id":"310083","messageId":"alpine.DEB.2.20.1701241228020.3469@virtualbox","threadId":"44953","inReplyTo":"vpq1svtstud.fsf@anie.imag.fr","subject":"Re: GSoC 2017: application open, deadline = February 9, 2017","fromName":"Johannes Schindelin","fromEmail":"johannes.schindelin@gmx.de","sentAt":"2017-01-24T11:28:25Z","receivedAt":"2017-01-24T11:29:06Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"johannes.schindelin@gmx.de","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/127790?v=4"},"body":"Hi Matthieu,\n\nOn Mon, 23 Jan 2017, Matthieu Moy wrote:\n\n> * Who's willing to mentor?\n\nAs in the years before, I am willing to mentor.\n\nCiao,\nJohannes\n"},{"id":"310088","messageId":"CAP8UFD1qsd13Eh45rXVDL+c=eWjNhoBMC4r1gG=zNw5OLDRigQ@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"44953","inReplyTo":"alpine.DEB.2.20.1701241228020.3469@virtualbox","subject":"Re: GSoC 2017: application open, deadline = February 9, 2017","fromName":"Christian Couder","fromEmail":"christian.couder@gmail.com","sentAt":"2017-01-24T13:32:08Z","receivedAt":"2017-01-24T13:32:20Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"christian.couder@gmail.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/208954?v=4"},"body":"On Tue, Jan 24, 2017 at 12:28 PM, Johannes Schindelin\n<Johannes.Schindelin@gmx.de> wrote:\n> Hi Matthieu,\n>\n> On Mon, 23 Jan 2017, Matthieu Moy wrote:\n>\n>> * Who's willing to mentor?\n>\n> As in the years before, I am willing to mentor.\n\nI am also willing to mentor.\n\nThanks!\n"},{"id":"310198","messageId":"20170125204504.ebw2sa4uokfwwfnt@sigill.intra.peff.net","threadId":"44953","inReplyTo":"vpq1svtstud.fsf@anie.imag.fr","subject":"Re: GSoC 2017: application open, deadline = February 9, 2017","fromName":"Jeff King","fromEmail":"peff@peff.net","sentAt":"2017-01-25T20:45:05Z","receivedAt":"2017-01-25T20:45:12Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"peff@peff.net","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/45925?v=4"},"body":"On Mon, Jan 23, 2017 at 04:02:02PM +0100, Matthieu Moy wrote:\n\n> If the answer to one of the above question is yes, then:\n> \n> * Who's willing to mentor? and to admin?\n\nI did co-admin last year and the year before, but I made Matthieu do all\nthe work. :)\n\nI do not mind doing the administrative stuff. As I\n understand it, really not much to do since Google and Conservancy\n work directly with each other for most stuff.\n\n2) Filling-in the application, i.e. essentially copy-past from the\n website.\n \n3) Then, make sure things that must happen do happen (reviewing\n applications, start online or offline discussions when needed, ...).\n\nLast year Peff did 1) and I did most of 2+3).
