By using those functions to test output which is\ncorrectly marked as translatable, enables one to detect if the strings\nnewly marked for translation are from plumbing output. If they are\nindeed from plumbing, the test would fail, and the string should be\nunmarked, since it is not seen by users.\n\nThus, it is productive to not have false positives when running the test\nunder GETTEXT_POISON. This commit replaces normal test functions by\ntheir i18n aware variants in use-cases know to be correctly marked for\ntranslation, suppressing false positives.\n\nSigned-off-by: Vasco Almeida They just need to be\ncareful when they add or modify the callers.\n\nEven if it is renamed $local_sha1, they will still need to be\ncareful anyway, because the only way they _can_ break or be broken\nby your patch is when they somehow decide to pass something that is\nnot called $sha1 to this function, i.e. they would be changing the\ncallsite---which they must be doing for a reason and would also\ninvolve change to the code what happens after this function returns.\nIf they start using $local_sha1 there, they would be broken if you\nrenamed it today, and if they use $sha1 there, they would be broken\nif you didn't---so they have to be careful and check what this one\nclobbers _anyway_. \n\nIOW, a solution that clobbers _some_ variable cannot be made safer\nby renaming. The callers always have to be careful not to be\naffected.\n\nYou could do something like this, though. New patches are also about i18n.\n\nI've tried scavenging mailing list and documentation (not too hard, I\nconfess) for a explicit hint on this and eventually other best/desired\npractices but found nothing so far, beside the content of\nDocumentation/SubmittingPatches of course.\nIf somebody could point me to something like that, that would be great.\n\nI also naturally expect that, if I'm doing something wrong or lesser,\nsomeone will bring it to my attention so I can correct.\n\n(The first time I've sent patches here, I then sent 2 more patches alone\nin their own series [1], but Junio Hamano put them together in one\nva/i18n-misc-updates branch, reasonable decision since that and the\nprevious series were all i18n patches, hence all related. That made me\nsuspect that option 2) is better.\nAfter that, I've sent a re-roll of first series, and Junio Hamano\nthought for a moment that I had dropped the 2 patches from the second\none [2]. So it seems that, at least in this case, option 1) can\nconfuse people.)\n\n[1] http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.version-control.git/291386\n[2]\nhttp://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.version-control.git/291860/focus=291914\n"},{"id":"287768","messageId":"xmqqeg8kpg3u.fsf@gitster.mtv.corp.google.com","threadId":"42425","inReplyTo":"57495473.2010903@sapo.pt","subject":"Re: [PATCH v2 00/22] i18n and test updates","fromName":"Junio C Hamano","fromEmail":"gitster@pobox.com","sentAt":"2016-05-30T00:03:01Z","receivedAt":"2016-05-30T00:03:01Z","isPatch":true,"sender":{"key":"gitster@pobox.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/54884?v=4"},"body":"Vasco Almeida <vascomalmeida@sapo.pt> writes:\n\n> Às 17:11 de 27-05-2016, Junio C Hamano escreveu:\n>> Vasco Almeida <vascomalmeida@sapo.pt> writes:\n>> \n>>> Marks several messages for translation and updates tests to pass under\n>>> GETTEXT_POISON.
