If you implemented that feature.\n\nHaving said that, this syntax is distinctly *not* the INI syntax we tried\nto imitate. Plus, there are Git implementations *other* than core Git in\nthe meantime, and they would need to be taught about this\nbackwards-incompatible syntax, too.\n\nAnd then we still could not turn on that feature by default because there\nare setups out there where different users use different versions of Git.\n\nIf you are prepared to push this feature forward, you can make it happen.\nIn that case, you will need to spend a bit of effort and definitely\nexercise patience because you would likely get this feature accepted only\ninto 2.9.0 (or 2.10.0 or 3.0.0...), i.e. a major version bump.\n\nCiao,\nJohannes\n"},{"id":"282702","messageId":"5703B560.8070902@atlas-elektronik.com","threadId":"41926","inReplyTo":"CANri+ExqdM-TTibWK07B2VFns6fQ09fmbqbCKC1VWET1tgRFNA@mail.gmail.com","subject":"Re: support block comments in gitconfig","fromName":"","fromEmail":"stefan.naewe@atlas-elektronik.com","sentAt":"2016-04-05T12:53:52Z","receivedAt":"2016-04-05T12:53:52Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"stefan.naewe@gmail.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/4468?v=4"},"body":"Am 05.04.2016 um 04:19 schrieb Timothee Cour:\n> Could we have block comments in gitconfig?\n> It's a nice-to-have supported in most languages.\n> eg:\n> \n> #{\n> commented out block\n> #}\n> \n> or other intuitive syntax\n\nMaybe not what you're looking for, but couldn't you use\nthe include functionality of gitconfig:\n\n[include]\n  path = ~/.another.gitconfig\n\n??\n\nThat way you can comment out a lot of configuration with one '#'.\n\nJust my €0.02\n\nStefan\n-- \n----------------------------------------------------------------\n/dev/random says: Air conditioned environment - Do not open Windows.\npython -c \"print '73746566616e2e6e616577654061746c61732d656c656b74726f6e696b2e636f6d'.decode('hex')\" \nGPG Key fingerprint = 2DF5 E01B 09C3 7501 BCA9  9666 829B 49C5 9221 27AF\n"}]}
