{"thread":{"id":"41587","subject":"git-svn ignore-paths and huge files","startedAt":"2016-03-01T22:41:14Z","lastAt":"2016-03-01T22:41:14Z","messageCount":1,"participants":["Vladimir Dosen"],"isPatch":false,"patchVersion":null,"patchTotal":null},"messages":[{"id":"280013","messageId":"CAHS3bFRB_PNx0ssno+5Yz3mKt9K7pUzvnqqyucm3CuGuc5P4ZA@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"41587","inReplyTo":null,"subject":"git-svn ignore-paths and huge files","fromName":"Vladimir Dosen","fromEmail":"vladimir.doshen@gmail.com","sentAt":"2016-03-01T22:41:14Z","receivedAt":"2016-03-01T22:41:14Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"vladimir.doshen@gmail.com","avatar":null},"body":"Hi.\n\nRecently I sent Eric (who is CC-ed and these days sporadic available\nfor deeper analyses) email titled as \"git-svn cloning get stuck during\nprocessing huge file\".\nIt was about \"git svn clone ...\" against repository which had big\nthird-party files (1,3 GB, 1,1 GB, 80 MB, 55 MB ), temporary stored in\nthat repository by mistake (deleted in next revisions).\nSo, because I don' t want them, naturally, neither in WC, nor in\n.git/object files as a part of history,\nI used \"--ignore-paths\" to avoid them.\n\nUntil today I though that process git-svn hangs, because I did not see\nany progress indicator for a  long time, more than couple of hours.\n(Thankful to \"--ignore-paths\", there were no temporary file(s) under\n./git which rapidly increase on second level, but still there were\nfiles such as (MAC's git-svn):\n-rw-------   1 vladimirdosen  staff     0 Feb 26 17:51\nGit_git_blob_1101_0_gyOjAm\n-rw-------   1 vladimirdosen  staff     0 Feb 26 17:51\nGit_svn_delta_1101_0_kG6AtD\n-rw-------   1 vladimirdosen  staff     0 Feb 26 17:51 Git_svn_hash_OkjgGH\n, as well as\n-rw-r--r--  1 vladimirdosen  staff     0 Feb 26 17:51 index.lock\nunder /.git/svn/refs/remotes/git-svn.\n... and I could note that process \"get stuck\" somewhere between\nRa.gs_do_update's call for \"$reporter->finish_report($pool);\"\nand\nreturn from Fetcher.apply_textdelta. )\n\nFortunately, today, probably thankful to much better network\ncondition, I succeed with \"latency\" 60-80 minutes,\nwhere handling of mentioned files has taken 98% of total cloning.\n\nSo now, my question(s) could be rephrased:\nIs there any way that ignoring with \"ignore-paths\" can be complete\nignoring of marked files,\nor why beside many \"return undef if $self->is_path_ignored\" in git-svn\nthis  cloning(fetching) takes significant time anyhow?\n\nIt is not only about waiting, but I was misled that process is not\npossible at all if I want to migrate SVN with full history :)\n\nThanks,\nVladimir\n"}]}
