I'm pleased to announce that it's\ndefinitely happening, and it's time to RSVP so we can get an official\nheadcount[2]:\n\n https://www.ticketbase.com/events/git-merge-core-contributors-summit\n\nIt will be April 4th in New York City, from 11am-5pm, and is open to\npeople who develop git or any of its alternate implementations, or tools\nthat are closely tied to git.\n\nWe have a venue that holds 25 people max. That should be enough based on\nthe responses I got to my earlier email. We can move to a larger venue,\nbut I'd have to know _very soon_. So please sign up promptly, and if you\nneed to wait to figure out your plans, let me know that you're maybe\ninterested.\n\nThere's no particular agenda for the meeting. People should show up with\nsome topics for discussion or presentation. There should be appropriate\nseating for round-table discussion, and a projector.\n\nThe rest of the Git Merge conference will be the following day, the 5th,\nwith more formal talks to a bigger audience. I think there are still\nspeaking slots left; let me know if you'd like to give a talk to the\nlarger audience, and I can put you in touch with the organizers. Details\nfor that day are still forthcoming, but will be at:\n\n http://git-merge.com/\n\nwhen they are available.\n\n[1] http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.version-control.git/282634\n\n[2] You need a password to register. My plan is to withhold it from this\n email but hand it out liberally to people who are git contributors,\n and it can hopefully pass by word of mouth to those who need it\n without generating any spammy registrations. I'll send an email\n shortly to everybody who responded to my previous announcement, but\n please don't hesitate to ask for it if you would like to come.\n"},{"id":"277242","messageId":"20160202162558.GA17345@sigill.intra.peff.net","threadId":"41311","inReplyTo":"20160202161240.GA16870@sigill.intra.peff.net","subject":"Re: [ANNOUNCE] Git Developer Summit, April 4th, 2016, NYC","fromName":"Jeff King","fromEmail":"peff@peff.net","sentAt":"2016-02-02T16:25:58Z","receivedAt":"2016-02-02T16:25:58Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"peff@peff.net","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/45925?v=4"},"body":"On Tue, Feb 02, 2016 at 11:12:40AM -0500, Jeff King wrote:\n\n> https://www.ticketbase.com/events/git-merge-core-contributors-summit\n> \n> It will be April 4th in New York City, from 11am-5pm, and is open to\n> people who develop git or any of its alternate implementations, or tools\n> that are closely tied to git.\n\nI have a few financial logistics questions for the Git community.\n\nI had a few people ask me earlier about travel assistance. I don't know\nhow much room there is in GitHub's budget for this[1]. I'll look into\ngetting money there, but we may also want to spend Git project funds for\nthis.\n\nDoes anybody have opinions on the logistics? I'm generally in favor of\ntransparency when it comes to handling project affairs, but my\ninclination is to keep travel assistance requests and rewards off the\nlist to protect people's privacy. So the simplest scheme is probably\nsomething like:\n\n 1. I'll collect names of people who are interested in assistance.\n\n 2. I'll present the list to the Git committee of Junio, Shawn, and\n myself. We'll come up with a proposal for who we can fund and how\n much.\n\n 3. We'll send the amount (but not the names) to the list for comment.\n\n 4. Barring objections, we'll tell Conservancy to authorized the money.\n\nI'm open to comments on the process as a whole, or guidelines for us to\nuse in step 2. It's the project's money, so I'd like to give as much\nopportunity as possible for people to have a say in how it's spent.\n\n-Peff\n\n[1] There is a conference fee for the \"main\" day, which I think will be\n $99/person, but the plan is for all proceeds to go to\n the Software Freedom Conservancy. The dev summit is free. I can look\n into waivers for individual git contributors, but I'd prefer to\n avoid doing a blanket waiver. For those folks whose employers will\n send them to a conference, I think it's nice for that money to go to\n Conservancy.\n"},{"id":"277250","messageId":"CAGZ79kYbV+r7M8ykGMORQNJPUna0GY_Luy8FfubYpo4dVFjX6Q@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"41311","inReplyTo":"20160202161240.GA16870@sigill.intra.peff.net","subject":"Re: [ANNOUNCE] Git Developer Summit, April 4th, 2016, NYC","fromName":"Stefan Beller","fromEmail":"sbeller@google.com","sentAt":"2016-02-02T17:06:03Z","receivedAt":"2016-02-02T17:06:03Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"stefanbeller@gmail.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/455868?v=4"},"body":"On Tue, Feb 2, 2016 at 8:12 AM, Jeff King <peff@peff.net> wrote:\n> [2] You need a password to register.\n\nThat's right!
